Twilight Soundtrack

Well, I am sure I will be ripped for this one....but who cares really.

I went out and bought the Twilight soundtrack because my wife is OBESSESED with this series/books/whatever. I did like a few songs from this CD. However, when I popped it in and cranked it up on my system it cracked on a few songs. Anyone else experience this on the soundtrack? Should I take it back?

Its not my system...I run a 5.1 Infinity Primus system....in fact on some of the well recorded tracks, they sound awesome. Any suggestions?

Oh and how the hell do I deal with a 24/7 obession by this stuff from my wife? It's kinda disturbing at times....

I read the first book after my friend's 18 yr-old sister made a case for it and told me to give it a chance... It reads like vampire fanfiction. I can't decide if I'm more surprised by the amount of adjectives she comes up with to describe beauty or the frequency of its use. It reads eerily similar to an internet fanfiction about boybands I read back in the day at the behest of yet another girl.

As a sidenote, does your username refer to the band Stars? I'm listening to them right now .

I got dragged to the movie today by my obsessed GF, and it wasn't quite as bad I was expecting. Actually, I didn't really have many gripes with the story or even the acting, just with the piss-poor direction, distracting cinematography and soundtrack, and occasionally clunky dialog. Basically a good story ruined by amateur filmmakers. From what the GF said, my only gripes with the storytelling were things that the movie messed up but the book did fine. Maybe the next one will be better.

I rather watch Let the Right One In 50 times then ever watch Twilight again. The difference between these two films is huge.

you are probably exceeding the capabilities of your system. Do not do this again.

Alternatively it could be the CD, listen to it in moderate levels and see if the crackle is present. If so, it is either on purpose or you got a crappy pressing, take it back and exchange it.

Nope. Some music producers are convinced that the most important aspect of sound reproduction is how loud they can make it, so they boost the levels after recording the tracks. This blows certain parts of audio waveform out of phase, and the high peaks, which should be rounded (like any wave pattern) become flattened out. This creates a section in the waveform where the sound that is supposed to be played is simply erased, hence the crackling.

The real question is why in God's name music producers jack the volume up so much when every single piece of musical playback equipment produced in the last century has a volume knob... but clearly a huge boost in volume with massive clipping is better than an accurate reproduction of what the artist represented.

FWIW, neither my wife nor my daughter thought the movie was very good... no comments on the soundtrack, though.

FCC doesn't have any authority over that.

Honestly I think most people either can't tell or don't care. I can't even stand to listen to the retail version of Death Magnetic, but I've talked to people who don't think hear anything wrong with the album. And I'm far from an audiophile, but I guess I'm more perceptive about fidelity than your average person.
