Im a hard out NV guy, however the pricing for the AMD 7xxx series is very very compelling, especially when you have a limited budget like mine!

Nah, really enjoy the spirit and new aggressive nature of AMD. Fighting with developer relations, pricing, bringing some differentiation and improved gaming experiences for their customers.

Keep in mind that there are 2 variables in the supply/demand equation. While I'm sure that Rory understands the importance of market share, and wants to increase it under his watch, there's the real possibility that supply is much better now. Just because AMD didn't struggle as much with supply as nVidia did on the new arch, it doesn't mean they had no constraints that inflated pricing that's improving over time.

I'm not saying that competition has nothing to do with the pricing. Considering we've just had the release of the 660ti and we're seeing a reduction in the cards that are competing with it, it's highly likely it's in response to this card. They want the 7870 cheaper than the 660ti and that's effecting the prices of the 7950 and 7850. The 7950 getting that cheap might force some movement at the top because it competes there as well.

I think the 7950 needs to be about $200. If they want to get back in the game.

:D So GTX660Ti should drop to $150-175 then? An OCed 660Ti gets put to shame by an OCed 7950.

I'm still really torn on 660 Ti now vs. 670 or 7950 on Black Friday. My guesses for prices of those by Black Friday are $300 for 670, $270 for 7950. Definite improvements, but the 660 could be a $260 card today if I sold the Borderlands coupon, and has the 150W TDP. I can't determine how much I really care about 150W vs. 225W TDP of the 7950B. On one hand, the lower TDP is more impressive and sounds more reasonable. On the other hand, maybe it doesn't matter much at the end of the day. I also buy cards for 3-4 years and I don't know if the 660 Ti has legs for that amount of time.

Check out the link right above. The 225W TDP of the 7950B has little to do with good after-market HD7950 cards that are binned from the factory to use ~ 1.0-1.05V and still hit 880-900mhz. AMD is being conservative with HD7950 B reference models. If you do your research and pick up a binned after-market 7950 such as the MSI TF3 and don't mind overclocking, then it'll be a great card for the future. It actually competes with an OCed 670 not a 660Ti. Depending on the prices by the time you buy, GTX670 may also be a viable deal. I think GTX660Ti will become good at $250-260, not at $300.

No surprise there when they dont sell much.

How many times have people discussed that we have to be careful when ONLY looking at Steam Sales numbers?

I'll start with an actual research firm that follows the industry quarterly for a living:
http://www.techpowerup.com/170575/G...Over-Last-Quarter-and-5.5-Over-Last-Year.html

- AMD saw gains in the discrete desktop category (2.5%).
- Nvidia's desktop discrete shipments dropped 10.4% from last quarter

I heard GTX670/680 sold more cards than AMD sold of the entire desktop HD7000 series..........

Fanboyism aside, I think we can all agree on this: Lower prices on the same performance = good for consumers.
Even if you prefer NV cards, this may pressure NV into dropping prices on NV cards, allowing you to get NV cards for cheaper, too! :)

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Whats your conclusion? AMD lowers prices for feeling generous? Its what now, their 4-5th pricecut after the first GTX680 release?

What's new in the GPU world? Company that launches a new generation first enjoys the highest prices/profits due to lack of competition (AMD 28nm HD7850/7870/7950 well uncontested for most of this time). When NV finally released competitive 28nm cards, AMD started to lower prices. That's a normal sequence of events. When you are late, you either have to launch cheaper or faster (NV). When you are launching earlier, you expect to drop prices later to remain competitive. Only few cases where this wasn't true (9700Pro vs. 5800U, 8800GTX vs. 2900XT).

I am seeing GTX660Ti dropping to 280-290 Euro already. I can see rebates or $10-20 price drops on GTX660Ti by end of this month maybe. Gigabyte is already offering a $20 rebate just days after launch. MSI Power Edition 660Ti added a $10 rebate. Price wars FTW!
