I've got an MSI GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb video card and I'm looking to overclock it. What's the best utility out there right now to do that with? How fast have people been able to get it?
I use coolbits, but Riva Tuner and NVmax work well. You should be able to hit 290/540 with 4ns ram, 3.6 or 3.3 will get you higher. With luck and better ram chips maybe 310/600, all video cards are different. I have only seen a few Ti4200's hit 650, those had 8 layer pcb and 3.3ns bga memory.
My VisionTek GF4 Ti 4200 128MB (6 layer PCB, 4nsec TSOP chips) runs easily at 300/600 with only ramsinks installed (the only mod). I did the o/c by reprogramming the BIOS.
I have a 64 MB Abit Siluro with 4ns tsop that hits 300/610 , I have never seen any other tsop ram chips hit more than 585. My Asus 8420 Deluxe 128MB has 8 layer pcb and 3.3 bga ram chips. That bad boy is using a Gainward Ti4400 bios and running 300/662!

Which chips? Mine are Samsung 4nsec TSOPs. I have actually had the card up to 310/650(!!!) for a few runs of 3DMark2001 SE but I didn't feel comfortable and backed it down to 300/600. There were no artifacts at 310/650 btw, I was just chicken.
Cool, thanks for the replies. I'll try coolbits and see how that works out.
Question: Ramsinks are simply heatsinks for the video card chip, right? Mine came preinstalled with a heatsink and fan on it. Is this good enough or should I look into getting a better one?
Your GPU cooler is probably fine. MSI is a good company, their cards are top shelf. And you are right about ramsinks. Typically they are not necessary but if you are going to do some extreme overclocking on your video card they can't hurt. Just make sure to install them properly if you want them to work properly.
