Tweaking DSL

So my cousin got ADSL about a week ago in his house, and has it set up and all, and is getting some weak 20 kb/sec downloads. I'm about to go up there on Sunday, is there anything I can do to improve on this?

Take a look at Speed Guide.

Even a completely stock box with a 1500 MTU on a DSL connection that requires lower shouldn't be doing 20kbytes/sec unless he has slightly better than IDSL (144kbps).

After making sure it's not something clientside, call the DSL provider, have them check things.

Pay for more bandwidth. He's probably capped. Just run a speed test.
