Hi ,

I bought a New motherboard ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe and 2 x 1GB OCZ 240DIMM PC2-6400 DDR2 Gold OCZ Dual Channel Kit .

Does anyone know that basic settings to tweak to run the RAM at peak performance ?

Im used to DDR400 , Theres like 40 different settings to tweak if you want , and the manual is no help .

step 1: set all timings to manufacturer's specs (usually you only get specs on the first 4 timings, all other timings just set to auto) and recommended voltage

if step 1 is successful, then you can play around by loosening timings and increasing FSB

if that is successful then you can try to set timings back to normal. If it fails, find a compromise, increase voltage a little, or ask for more help

Intel or AMD?

AT recently did a nice article with such topic, and while their conclusion is strange (which is praising X48 - I still have no idea how all the theory/testing are related to X48), the gist is there.

Basically you want 400FSB under 266 strap, and 4:5 ratio which is DDR2-1000. Most Micron D9 will do DDR2-1000/CL5 with reasonable voltages. (~2.2V) If your memory isn't capable of high frequency, DDR2-800/CL4 might be the next candidate.
