Ok, I finally understand the phsyx debate,, CPU usage or video card usage.

But I learned a single 8800GT phsyx card will do wonders in graphics and also speed.

My question is, my mobo says 2 16x PCIe. Soo what would I do take the current one out put it in the second slot then buy a new 460 and put it where the 8800GT used to be. Will this work, and would I be able to use the 8800GT as phsyx,,, very weird. I thank you in advance for your help. I mean its intel chipset I understand I cant SLI , however I can Xfire,,, thanks again in advance. gb and gg and tc

Yes it would work fine, you motherboard has a 16x slot and a 4x slot. A 4x slot is fine for physx. A gtx 460 and 8800gt will work fine together.

Are you gonna volt mod the gtx460?
You might be the first person on our forums to get 1000 core. :)

Just make sure to get a green PCB 460, its been well documented that they are much higher quality gl gg ttyl

Yes of course it matters. Some companies use red PCB which is cheap. Others use blue PCB which is pos. You need green PCB and a well known company like gigabyte or evga.

It does matter in the quality of the product... gl

TDP is 150W for 768MB and 160W for 1GB as I recall.

Im juiced up, phsyx on a 8800GT and rig card a 460 geforce. BTW how much watts does the 460 geforce take up. Thanks in advancement...ty
so you can end up with insanely detailed sig yet you lack the ability to find out how much power a gtx460 consumes? o_O

Once you get it working I recommend Mirrors Edge and Batman:AA if you haven't already played those 2 titles.

Also, Mafia 2 is suppose to be the best PhysX title so far but I haven't played it yet.

Just Cause 2 has physX IIRC. and you could max details on a 460GTX since it a console port.

no, no and no. JC 2 does NOT use physx but the games uses some CUDA enhanced features. the gtx460 performs no better than a gtx260 in Just Cause 2 so it will be a sluggish at a times "maxed out". and finally its NOT a port and is a DX10 build from the ground up. it only takes a few seconds to look up most of that stuff before posting...

My GTX460 runs JC2 noticeably better than my old GTX260. Nothing earth shattering but it's noticeable.

That's without the CUDA-based effects. Perhaps there's a bigger difference with them enabled?
well if you are only averaging 38 fps to begin with then turning on 2 more demanding settings is not really an option anyway.

If anything that would actually support the claim to which you responded. A GTX260 getting ~20FPS and a GTX460 ~30FPS (numbers out of my ass :p) would describe "noticeably better but not earth shattering" pretty good :D

not likely but even if that was the case neither would be playable so it doesn't really matter though.

There's a significant, if not substantial, difference between the GTX460 and the 260 in JC2. I still have my GTX260, I wish I had the energy to put it back but I don't. i'm getting old and lazy I guess, working on the pc just isn't that much fun anymore!

I ran the same test at identical settings as the reviewer (1080p, 4xaa, max all but gpu water/bokeh off) and got a 39.65fps average with the GTX460. That's pretty much right in-line with the reviewer, just confirming their scores is all. But it's pretty pointless since anyone with an nvidia card will play this game with gpu water on, anyway.

In case anyone's interested I don't play at those settings but instead at (1080p, 2xaa, max all incl gpu water/bokeh on) and at those settings I got a 31.0fps average on the Dark Tower bench. So despite dropping AA to 2x, enabling both nvidia gpu settings cut my fps by 25% in this one benchmark.

I will say this though - the game itself feels much faster than 31fps when actually playing. I've never bothered to check the fps since it feels great, maybe I'll let FRAPS run in the background sometime and check it out...

:edit: I neglected to mention my GTX260 was at the factory overclock of 630mhz, I never bothered overclocking it further. It was an MSI 192core model. But my GTX460 is overclocked to 800mhz/1600shader. Just want to be fair about this, I have no dog in this fight either way... simply reporting my own experiences with each card.
