It happened awhile ago I?m not sure when exactly. Right around the time I setup small home network for the 2 pc?s that we have, so that could be related. I know its a registry setting, but I don?t know where it is and if I were to find I wouldn?t know what it?s supposed to look like. I?ve tried reinstalling Tweak UI and messing with the windows PWL. Files but none of that seemed to do anything.

Anyone out there able to shine some light on this for me?

Thanx

I've had this happen on several computers with W98 & a couple of versions of TweakUI. I've tried the same sorts of solutions without any lasting benefit, and usually no benefit at all.

Well I'm assuming something messed with the registry key. If I knew where it was I could look at machine that had a functioning auto-logon and go from there. Or if somebody knows the key and knows how it should be configured that would be even better. Or another completely different option would be go with some other 3rd party app that would do the same thing, anyone know of anything that would?

I had the same problem occur on my ME system (automatic login not working). I did a little research on Microsoft's web site, and discovered that they do not recommend using Win 98's Tweak UI with ME.

Because I upgraded my system from 98 to ME, Tweak UI was still in place. I also suspect that it was the cause of the random errors that I would receive when first hitting the desktop screen at bootup.

Note that when you uninstall TweakUI, the changes to your system remain.

Same thing happens to my 98 installs after they get a little old. The autologin stops working even though the settings are still there.

I have found, in my case, that it usually is Anti-Virus software getting in the way that causes the problem.

Try this:

In regedit, go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

Create a new string value called "Default Password" without the quotes.

Doubleclick on it and set the data field to your password.

That works on my WinMe.
