Tweak Of The Week: Minimize Outlook to System Tray

I know a few of you here use Outlook for your email.
Personally, I don't like programs that I have open all the time take up space in the taskbar.

This neat little registry hack will give you an Outlook icon in your systray, and makes Outlook minimize to tray when clicked.

Note: Does NOT work with Outlook Express.

Minimize Outlook to System Tray

Enjoy.

doesnt seem to be working on winxp / outlook 2000

i didnt reboot though, i guess i'd probably have to for a reg change to take effect eh?

All you need to do is put in a registry key. I've had Outlook XP minimized in my System Tray for almost a year now. Let me find it...

Here (ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE OUTLOOK XP):

 1.
Open Regedit.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences

Add a new DWORD value and name it MinToTray

Set it equal to 1.

Restart Outlook, it should now minimize to the tray.

Kick ass! Worked like a charm. Thanks! 😀

oh...and if you don't want to download the .reg, you can just do the following:

1.Open your registry (Click on Start->Run and type regedit and press OK) and find the key below. You may need to create the key if it does not already exist.

2.Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called 'MinToTray' and edit the value according to the settings below.

3.Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Settings
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences]
Value Name: MinToTray
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (1 = System Tray, 0 = Taskbar)
