so i got a geforce 4400ti on a AMD 2100+ xp with 512 DDR RAM.

now, here is teh question, should i tweak this year old system at all? I went into my geforce settings and on default my antialiasing is off, antiotrpic filtering is off and performance is on 'balanced'.

should i up these settings?

what else can i do to make this make my games look better and play faster? splinter cell seems a little laggy, and so does unreal 2 a little. any ideas?

Overclock the system and/or card. Google for "coolbits" to get info on how to overclock the card..its very simple, you just need to add a registry setting.

In a rare moment of kindness, I did the Googling for you:

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak

Add the following DWORD values:
"Coolbits" = dword:FFFFFFFF
"NvCplEnableHardwarePage" = dword:00000001
"NvCplEnableAGPSettingsPage" = dword:00000001

After you do that and reboot, when you go into the Advanced Settings part of your Display Properties and click the Geforce tab, there will be a section where you can set the processor and ram speeds of the card. Do SMALL increases, testing for stability after each.

does anyone have any recommendations as to how much i should set the frequencies? also... my antialiasing is off and same with the anisotropic filtering. turning them on high causes it to slow down, what doyou think i should set them to? 4x?

Bump the settings 5-10 mhz at a time until it either locks or shows artifacts... You then back it down about 5-10 from that point..

AA in simple terms - Rounds of the "jaggies" or edges... It does however sometimes make the game look better at higher resolutions and what not..

I would say leave it off, you games will play much smoother.
