TWAIN missing - Win 98 - please help

I'm getting this error when I choose select TWAIN source in IrfanView and from PhotoShop and PSP the select source/acquire commonds are greyed out.

"TWAIN error?
Can't connect to device or TWAIN driver is not installed"

I have the following TWAIN compliant devices installed: Epson 1250 Photo, Logitech PageScan Color Pro, Pinnacle Systems PCTV, and Intel
PC Pro Camera

OS is Windows 98 SE.

I have recently (since the last time I checked if I could scan - when it worked) uninstalled some apps: Photoshop 5.5 and Arcsoft Photosuite. Before that I have added the Epson 1250 scanner but was able to do a few test scans from it without problem.

I still have a twain_32 folder with the four *.ds ddrivers in it. in the windows directory there is twain001.mtx, twunk002.mtx, twunk003.mtx, twain.log but neither twain.dll, twain_32.dll, twunk_16.exe nor twunk32.exe. I think these are all TWAIN-related files. What other files should I look for? I have not checked the registry (don't know what to look for)

How can I get the TWAIN support to return? Any ideas are appreciated. (I really don't want to reinstall Windows)

thanks,
sathyan

It seems that you removed some shared files with the uninstall.
The first thing I would try is to reinstall one of the twain devices. If that device works, that's one problem down. If that doesn't fix it all, then reinstall the other twain devices
