Hey;

Does anyone have a preference between watching TV on the tube v/s on a rig?

Raid arrays with massive storage plus hardware MPEG2 encoding is sweet (even nicer with software); but there's something about the comfort of a standard cathode ray.

Also, anyone know of any MPEG4 or DIVX hardware that can do encoding on the fly (640x480 minimum)...?

When my wife is watching something crappy on our only TV set, what I want to watch looks pretty good on my computer!

SunshineDaydream, I prefer to watch TV on my "tube tv" vs. my rig; a 19" CRT, while sitting at a task chair isn't what TV was meant for 🙂

You can never get very comfortbale sitting in front of your rig watching dvd's, divx etc....just not the same. When I have more space (and money) I wanna get one of those huge 42'' Plasma Monitors.....doubles as a TV then.....also "doubles" as a huge hole in my bank account..even something like a 28'' one would be fine.

heh, I just got done setting up a PC to play DVDs and Divx on a TV. The TV provides a smoother picture because of the lower resolution. Text looks like crap (windows desktop) but the DVD picture is quite clear and crisp.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards an XGA projector and about 60" of wall space.

Just a quick question; if I run something low-res that I maximize (say, Geiss for example, at 340x280), should the thing appear in 1/3 of the screen, or should the image be stretched? What I mean to ask is, if I run the thing full screen, should the image occupy just the pixels in the center, or should the image be stretched to the edges of the screen?

exactly... but I much prefer my Z-560's to the TV speakers.

Yeah, I love my 4.1's so much that I tried to sell them (I'm interetsed in upgrading to some nicer sound in the future); 400Watts, sensitivity, and a good S/N is nice, but audiophiles always want the best.
