TV wont go above Channel 36

I have an older TV that when hooked up to my cable wont go above channel 36. Is there any device other than using a VCR to allow me to see the rest of my channels. The TV is capable of going up to 99 without "cable" turned on. Not sure what the problem is.
 
Just because the TV says cable ready doesnt mean it works with every cable systems. Most the time it wont you need a converter, that is if your system uses them. Or you could get a TV card for your computer and run it that way. Hope that helps.
