TV Won't Change From Standard to HD

I have a Samsung HL-P5063. Comcast is my service provider.
My wife decided we needed to change the living room layout
To do so required my unplugging the electronics and resetting all in their new location. Simple enough, I figured. But since then the TV is not changing screen resolutions like it used to do.
For example, if I'm watching a standard def channel and then switch to an HD channel, the picture doesn't change to HD. Likewise, if I'm watching an HD program and change channels to a standard def broadcast, the cable box indicates that the HD resolution is still in play, causing the picture to be a bit fuzzy. This was never an issue before I unplugged the set.
The Comcast Cable box is model DCH3416. The cable box and TV are connected via HDMI.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

noo....
tv's dont' downscale hd channels to standard def. if you actually fed the tv an hd channel, it shows an hd channel. if you connect it using sd connections or feed it an sd signal, it will remain and sd signal. it is impossible that it is actually getting an hd channel feed and just nerfing it.

True, but he's having a cable STB pass the signal to his TV via HDMI or component and it's the unit that's sending the signal. Believe it or not the retarded default option for this particular Motorola HD DVR is 480i.

Op, I believe that your unit may have gotten reset to factory defaults. While the TV is set to the input that the DVR is hooked up to press the menu button on the DVR while the DVR is turned off. This will bring up a settings screen where you can set the output resolution for the unit. Set it to the appropriate resolution then save your settings. This should fix your issue.

I think you have to enable both 720p and 1080i on the cable box. Also tell it that your set is 16:9...

Here's where I'm at so far. Went into the cable box menu. Set is enabled at 16:9.
I set the resolution for 1080i. I don't see how to enable that and 720p. From what I can see it's one or the other.
So right now at 1080i, when I am watching a channel that is broadcasting at 720p the picture is a bit off. Not unbearable, but annoying because all was well before I disconnected everything to change some furniture around.

my old box was set to:

follow actual resolution if 720p,1080i,1080p

otherwise feed 1080i upsample
