So I am a college student looking to get around the somewhat high cost of a lcd tv. so I came up with the same idea as everyone else, use an lcd monitor. Dell is running a deal for a 22in Widescreen for around 230. Now I know I need a TV Tuner and have read all the previous threads and newegg reviews as I could, but i still feel I'm lacking direction. I want to turn my old rig that runs a pIII 1.13 and xp into a pure cable box that would do nothing but support the monitor with cable and xbox 360. Which tuner card can do would anyone recommend in good conscious for under 60 bucks. I also have no interest in recording live tv either, i literally just need a tuner that just does cable picture well.

I have been using a Hauppauge 150 MCE for a while and it works fine. Your PIII should work ok with it. Their software will let you tune ANALOG TV channels 1-99. Remember that analog is supposed to die in 2009. It can also be connected to a cable box via S-video. Any S-video signal from the TV box can be displayed on channel 3 using the cable box tuner, including HD, but limited to 720x480 as I recall. The picture is fine either way. I know you said you didn't want to record but it can save live input video as a mpeg2 file. This card works well in Linux and Windows 2000/XP, have not tried any Vi$ta or MCE2005. I have not used any of the FM stuff at all either.
