tv tuner drivers

I had a old no-name tuner that I was trying to get to work (never did happen btw...), and as such have lots of various 878 chipset drivers sitting around on my system. b878 tweaked, philips878... etc etc.

So I finally broke down and bought a 878a conexant chipset card, which comes with its own drivers. But anytime I try to install it the computer goes with the old drivers, even when I try and select them manually. Is there a way to clean off the old drivers? or do I have to format (new computer, so not a huge deal -- just annoying)

I know there are driver cleaners for video cards, but wasn't sure if there's a parallel here.

Thanks

See if by chance there is an entry in Add/Remove Programs that you can uninstall. Or, when installing the new hardware, choose the Have Disk option and direct it to where the driver files for the new hardware reside. This is from memory. There are a number of ways to do this and I don't remember the different scenarios and how to wind your way through. You'll essentially want to do a manual installation of the hardware and direct the wizard to where the files are located.

Otherwise you may have to uninstall the files manually. You may want to unzip the driver file for the old card and make note of the file names for reference.

There probably are one or two key files in the System and System32 folders that once deleted will allow you to install your new card. But I'm not that well versed in this to tell you specifically what folder, etc.

A bump for you at the very least.

Don't worry about it - just allow the old drivers to install, then update to the most recent drivers; it isn't an issue.

If you're dead set on removing the old drivers, go into c:\windows\infs and move the oem*.inf files to a new folder, and then plug your new card back in.

I wouldn't bother though.
