Right now I am looking to get a TV Tuner card so I want to know the best one I could get for a relatively good price. Any one have a suggestion because I have no idea about TV tuner cards.

if your using xp i would vote no on the tv wonder.

xp+tvwonder=too many problems

get a aver media or HAUPPAUGE WINTV-GO card both are about 45.00 at mwave here

i have seen too many problems on the tvwonder card,it works fine on some systems but on others it is a nightmare install.

ymmv

hope this helps

Yes the ATI tv wonder is a buggy POS. It will make Windows XP unstable and the only half working drivers they have for it are still in beta. They have been for three months. The original drivers don't work right. We're still waiting 1 year and three months for working XP drivers and haven't seen any yet. They just don't care about supporting this product. I have it sitting in my closet right now since if I install it my system will instantly become unstable and I'll have to reformat. I instead use the hauppauge wintvGO which is vastly superior in absolutely every way to ATI's offering. Stay away from the TV wonder. It's a POS.

Pink0, the TV Wonder really left a bad taste in your mouth huh? As I pointed out in other threads though, it is not the spawn of Satan... Even when using the ATi drivers installed PROPERLY, I had NO stability issues at all in Win XP Pro.

It is also nice to listen to TV in stereo, which your HAUPPAUGE WINTV-GO tuner does NOT support. The TV Wonder PCI does. From my other post:
Also be sure to choose the Hauppauge version that you want since some models do not include stereo audio. The WinTV-GO-FM is mono. Spec Link

The same goes for the ATi TV Wonder. I have the TV Wonder PCI which has a stereo TV tuner and Breakout Box. The TV Wonder VE and USB is mono. Spec Link

wje pointed out that the Leadtek 2000XP Deluxe is a good card. It has 181 channel support, stereo FM, remote, etc... It probably would be the next TV card that I would get if I needed one. For now though, the TV Wonder PCI works just fine. 😉

EDIT: Daedalus12 did not mention which OS he is using. There is a nifty feature included with WinXP called "System Restore" I cannot understand your need to reformat when all you needed to do was roll back the system before the "Devil's driver" install??

System restore didn't fix the problem. Have to reformat every time. This is a very common thing which you can see for yourself in the rage 3d forums. YOu should really look at the thread that I started a little ago about this card. Also, the TV wonder VE which is at the price point they're talking about doens't support stereo either.

I used to have the ATI TV Wonder PCI and did not like the results under WinXP so I switched to a WinFast TV2000 XP with excellent results.

Good luck

Would you happen to know if the WinFast TV2000 XP works well with Windows 2000? Do you use Leadtek's drivers? Do you use their software?

Indeed, this is a good card. I am saving my pennies for one right now to use with my GF4 Ti 4200.

What stability issues are you experiencing? I have the TV wonder finally installed on my system and it is working under xp. My system becomes unstable only when the CPu is under a lot of load, but also I only have 256mb RAM DDR, I am looking to drop another 256 this coming weekend to help out the the rig so it will stop stressing.

I guess this is a little off-topic, but are there any TV tuner devices available for laptops? I am shopping for a laptop for a friend and she refuses to buy a TV 😀

Yes. It's called the USB TV wonder. It hooks up to any laptop with a USB port.

'm wondering if/when a firewire external TV tuner will be available.

Already is. Sort of...It's called a bridge. It's not a tuner but it is video in. You could use like a cable box or a vcr to change channels I guess.

It looks like I'll be getting the LeadTek card. It seems to be a good one with a reasonable price.

BTw: My Os is Windows XP pro SP1 so I ruled out the TV wonder card because of the crappy ATI drivers.
I got another question what chip is the LeadTek Winfast card based on?
