TV tuner cards and digital cable boxes

Can the two live in harmony? I have a digital cable box and I'd like to be able to record shows on my PVR-150 TV Tuner. The only problem is, there's no way to change channels.

Has anyone found a way to do this? The only thing I could think of was tearing apart a remote control, finding out how it operates, connecting it to a serial port, and then running a script to change channels.

Way, way too much work.

Does anyone have any ideas?
 
What cable box and what PVR software options are you using? It depends a lot on those factors. For instance, I use a USB IR-blaster with Windows Media Center and a Motorola 5100; or I could use a direct firewire connection to my cable box instead or a direct serial connection with other PVR software if my cable company would provide/enable digital connections other than audio. Unfortunately my cable company would rather kiss the rear of the MPAA than support their customers so I have to use the less reliable IR-blaster method, but you may have other options depending on the particulars of your situation.

I'm using WinTV2000 on a Hauppage PVR-150. The cable box is a Motorola DCT 2524.
 
Okay, I almost have this set up.

The problem is that I can't find a code for the 2524. When I search, I find things like "I found the code but I won't post it!"

Pisses me off.
 
All right.

I got it set up okay. The computer interfaces with the box just fine.

Now I need to find out how to make it so that the "Guide" and menu navigation buttons work.
 
Also, does anyone know where WinTV stores the channels? I just put like 300 in and I don't want to ever lose that list.
