Here is the deal. I have a computer in my bedroom with an ancient Avermedia PCI NTSC TV Tuner card in it that is shot.

I was going to get another TV Tuner card but with the new digital TV transition I'm wondering what I shoudl get? I have Comcast cable with an HD-DVR box on my flatscreen in the living room but the bedroom TV just uses the standard wall jack without cable box.

If I buy another NTSC card will I not be able to use it next february or will I need a cable box? Will the signals coming from the cable company be converted to analog or will they be digital signals? the ATSC cards I've seen for sale keep saying "terrestrial". This make it sound like ti won't work with cable?

I'm confused..............

What should I get?

No box will be needed, nothing changes with cable.
Wrong!

Ever heard of SDV?? Switched Digital Video?
Cable is slowing getting rid of their analog channels in favor of digital. SDV selectivly channels what you want to watch to your area as opposed to having all the sewrvices available 24/7 everywhere saving bandwidth.

Of course it isn't compatable with anything except the MSO's cable boxes without a adpater for a TiVo recorder.

The only digital channels that are 'in the clear' are your local OTA (over the air) channels and maybe a few others. You would at least get those with a newer QAM Tuner Card.

Frankly, I would go with a outboard USB solution. That way, it can be moved between computers including Laptops.
