I want to pick up a TV tuner card so I can record TV shows and play them on my new iPod (when it shows up).

It need to be able to record in MPEG 4 and/or H.264.

So what do you guys recommend?

There are no TV tuners that will record directly to MP4. Botht the Hauppauge and Saphire cards will record to MP2. You can then transcode that to H.264 or whatever variant you need.

Neither of those TV tuners record directly to H.264. Only MPEG-2 from the capture path AFAIK. Then from there you can encode it to DivX,xvid,x264,quicktime,realplayer,WMV, you get the point. :)

The Hauppauge PVR-150 and the Sapphire Theater 550 are not HD cards. They can only receive from an analog TV source.
