TV tuner card with Digital Cable

I need to find a tv tuner card that will work with my digital cable. I had a LeadTek TV2000XP Deluxe but it never worked right. I could tune in FM and stuff, but I only had like 2 tv channels show up. I have an extra cable box taht I can plug into the tuner card, if needed, but I dont need access to all the extra channels, just the basic ones for viewing from the computer room.
I was thinking of one of the Hauppauge tuners, but if there is something less expensive that will work with digital cable, that would be great.

Thanks for the advice.

I believe you still need to run it through your digital box and then to your tv...try www.htpcnews.com or www.avsforum.com for guides.

Yup....digital cable is generally (=almost always) encrypted, the exception usually being HDTV "locals" - those channels that are broadcasted over the air as well. But of course you don't have an HD tuner anyway...so there is no way to get that digital cable except to run the cable box's outputs to the video/audio inputs of that TV tuner. You might be able to tune a few analog channels if they're sent on the line too (as you noticed), but that's it.

All right, thanks for the help! Thanks for the forums too.

Does it matter which tuner card to get, or was my problem with the cable box only?
Will a relatively cheap card do the trick? (may want to record the odd show, but will mostly be used just to watch while Im in the room)
Thanks again.
