I'm really looking for a TV tuner card that will run stable in WIN2K and have the ability of capturing tv programs in mpeg-1 format. And no please dont recommend the ATI TV-WONDER because it blows in WIN2K and it will continue to blow in WIN2K because their driver support is non-existant. Anything else out there?

The Avermedia TV98 (I think that's what it's called) works well, and the Hauppuage ones work pretty decently too.

Can you record programs like the ati tv-wonders with the haupagge cards? I used to have an avermedia98 card and used it for windows 98.. those cards were cheap yet effective. didnt think they had a record feature tho?

Yes Hauppauge cards do capture programs in Mpeg-1 format. And you can get even a model from 1996 and it will work flawlessly in Win2k. They can be had for as low as 15.00 on the board.

i've checked their website and none of them state they can capture tv-shows in mpeg-1 format. They can record video input into .avi supposedly. The hauppage wintv-pvr however acts like a tivo and records in mpeg-2 format and can convert to vcd format. can anyone else who owns a hauppage card verify it can record tv programs in mpeg-1 format? Thanks alot, this is very appreciated.

I think my Theater records in AVI. No big deal, I can use it to convert straight into ASF, with MPEGs I think I would have to convert them into AVI's before ASF's.

I have owned two over a number of years. It will record any external source in Mpeg 1 format. I have done it! It is done using the included software. I have recorded TV shows from it's internal tuner and Movies from a VCR.

Yeah - I wish ATI would get some new drivers out for Win2k. I mean, the stability went from zilch to perfect w/ DX8 but the capture is still non-existent.
