I have an ageing connexant BT878 based card that i bought dirt cheap from a local store.

However, the image quality leaves much to be desired and i was wondering if there are alternatives that produce much higher quality, at not too great a price (somewhere around $100).

This may have been covered a thousand times, but i haven't paid much attention to tv tuner market, so bear with me.

Thanks

Yeah, I have the leadtek Expert card, in my opinion, for 55 bucks, its a great card. I've been capturing VHS signals and the playback is great. The FM antenna though is doesn't do that great of a job at least in my apt.

The good news about your BT878 based card is that it will work withDScaler, a program that deinterlaces the video and turns it into a progressive scan stream in real time. I've not yet had a card supported by this, but many people swear by the program.

qauality is definately better with DScaler, but i cant get the sound to work and channel scanning is horrible.

I like my ATI TV wonder... but since I only use it about twice a month, I'm obviously not a TV card fiend... I just bought whatever was a good price..
thing works totally fine... never had a problem with it.

I have bought no less than 6 tv tuner cards (all different brands BTW) and my newsest one is the Compro videomate TV Gold plus.

Not expensive $50.00 USD and works well. Better than most.

I'm looking at the same card. Do you have any audio sync problems with it?

spend a little more and get a hdtv card, they go for about 200. hd resolution beats your monitor i bet:) no point in spending on another standard def if u've already got one. just use dscaler to filter the sh8t out of it
