Tv-Tuner and Internet won't play nice

I'm having some trouble with my TV-tuner.

I use RCN for both cable television and internet. Last summer I purchased an ATI theater 650 tuner card. Using a simple coax y-splitter I connected my computer to both the internet and the cable signal from the same wall jack. A different jack in a different room brings the cable signal to my living room TV (via an RCN cable box). This setup worked quite well all through the fall. I had no problems using the internet and the tv-tuner simultaneously.

However, starting around christmas my cable service became very flaky, dropping every 20-40 minutes. At first I thought it was a problem with my router or my modem, but eventually I realized that the internet service worked normally if I cut the TV-tunerut of my setup, ie if I wired the cable directly into my modem rather than running it through a y-splitter to connect both the modem and the tv-tuner simultaneously. So then i thought I had a bad coax-patch cable or a bad y-splitter. But I have replaced my y-splitter and tested all of my coax-cables independently.

The tv tuner works fine if I plug it in alone and the internet works fine if I plug that in alone. But the internet doesn't work with both plugged in (no matter what I do, the cable TV service via the cable box in a different room is uninterrupted). This is driving me crazy and I have no idea what the problem is. Clearly both signals are arriving in my house, since they both work independently. And this setup worked normally for more than 4 months (so it's not an issue of component compatibility or anything like that), but now it refuses to cooperate.

Any suggestions?

call the cable company. there could be a problem with one of the cables where something is causing signal degradation.
Or maybe try a bidirectional amp.

If you're paying for the service it's their job to make sure you get what you pay for.
