I'm thinking about ditching comcast cable. I really don't watch it enough to justify the $80 a month I spend. Besides, all I do is flip back and forth between the HD channels. I could just as easily do that with an HDTV antenna, does anyone use an indoor antenna that you would recommend? I live in an apartment so it can't be outdoor.

When I moved in January, I gave my 32" Panasonic HDTV "TAU" to my mom, and I haven't even hooked up my little 20" Symphonic. And to tell the truth, I don't miss TV one bit.

EDIT: I just subscribe to Comcast's base cable package (approx. $10/mo for public access and broadcast) because it results in a $15 discount on internet access, for a net discount of approx. $5.

I got tired of spending $40 for basic digital cable, plus $5 extra for the HD Box @ TW. With tax I was paying almost $60/mos
So, I bought a directional outdoor antennae for $80 and get all my HD channels. Bought a FusionHD5 Lite PVR Card to record my fav. shows, I'm now I'm a happy camper :D

I pay $45 for standard cable when all I need if about five for six channels. I can go channel surfing in about 10 seconds because of it.
Comedy Central, Spike, Discovery, History, and Speed. I occasionally watch NBC or Fox depending on which channel the race is on.

Edit:
The five I watch regularly aren't on basic nor over the air, which sucks.

Cable comes free with my apartment. If I could cancel it and shave $20 off my rent I would. Of course, the wife and those damn cooking shows...

I did that last year. I was paying 115/month for digital classic, HDTV channels, dvr and HSI. Now I only get the local channels in HD, but at least I'm not paying for them. I miss the DVR, but I can live without it.

I don't know what the hell's in your cable package, but my comcast bill is $18/month. Comes w/ ESPN, Comedy Channel, Cartoon Network, etc. SBC DSL is $13/month.

Monthly spending on tv = for kev in OP=$80, for me=$0

I don't like tv.

I grew up pretty much without tv, and it still seems weird to me, and annoying, when I'm at someone's house & they have tv on all the time as their white noise.

I own one, but mostly only for dvds. Refuse to get cable because I won't allow tv to become a focus of our lives.
We only get one commercial station (ABC, LOST), one public tv station with wildlife shows, & one Spanish language station for the occasional soccer game.

I do turn it on in the lonely hotel rooms is about all.

Why let some tv producer deaden your mind? I prefer to be real active outdoors, talk w/ friends, read books, write creatively, do projects like woodworking, build computers, etc.

My Comcast $15 package includes pretty much just the local and some forign language channels. The $45 package (next step up) includes most of the others. Add $10 for the HD box and $45 for the cable modem and you got my bill.

It is an indoor. I pick up all of the major local channels (Fox, CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS). It's some 50 dollar antenna I got from Radio Shack. It works much better than the piece of junk phillips I had before it. The only issue I have is my apartment is right along a major street, and when diesels or large vehicles drive by, it breaks up the signal. I'll post what model number it is when I get home this evening.

can you get the $15 package and then $10 extra for the HDTV? because I don't want all the other channels.

I could. But then I wouldn't get any of the five channels that I want to watch.
