I have two TV's a Sony SXRD and a Panasonic Plasma. I have 3 year old and 9 month old and I need to get safety straps. I know Sony had one for the SXRD but you had to buy their TV stand and I do not want their stand. I built my own.

The Sony will stay on the TV stand in the foreseeable future but the Panasonic will get a wall mount so that one will be temporary, i.e. 1-2 years. We just moved so that is not a priority right now to mount it until i am sure where it will go.

Any recommendations for something to secure my TV's to furniture?

err, the tv should come with anti tipping strap already, you just need to secure it.

Thanks, something like that. Although the reviews state this is going to strip the varnish off my dresser but maybe i can put it on the back where it does not matter.

that is odd. Pretty sure it is a requirement.

I do not see anything like that for my panasonic which i just took out of the box. It does have a free USB wifi adapter which i do not need but i will look again.

Sony is a few years old and not flatscreen and the manual says to buy the stand which has the strap.

I've setup maybe a dozen flat screens at home, work, or for friends. Every one has always had a black nylon strap in the hardware bag.

Both of the Sony flat panels I have purchased came with the nylon strap.

Just make something out of a piece of rope or wire and a bigass screw. It's not that difficult and nobody's going to see it since it's in the BACK of the TV. My wife has a tall jewelery box and it's totally tip-happy. I used a piece of denim from an old pair of jeans, cut into a 3/4" wide strip. Nailed that to the jewelery box and sank a hollow wall anchor/screw into the sheetrock behind it. Problem solved. I'd used something heavier for the TV, obviously. Wire or such.

Duct tape should do the trick!

You could ghetto rig it by using ratcheting straps :D

I see monoprice has cheap wall mounts so I think i will do that sooner rather than later for the Panasonic. I also see a strap spot on the back of the Sony SXRD so off to Home Depot I go looking for a nylon strap and I will screw it to the back of the TV stand which no one sees and will not leave a mark on the wall when it it is replaced with a flat screen in the distant future.
