i'd like to get some speakers, like 5.1 or something for my tv. i'm not up on speakers and stuff so i really don't know what i can do. the tv i have is some kind of sony. it has the red, white, yellow jacks which are component cables right? it has 2 sets of red, white, and yellow and then a 3rd set of red and white only jacks. i don't see any other kind of jacks other than s-video and the coax for the antenna and stuff like that.

can i get 5.1 or am i stuck with stereo? even stereo would be fine. better than the crappy built in tv speakers.

the next question is where can i get this stuff for pretty cheap but yet still get good sound quality? pretty much $100 right now is the limit. money is tight with xmas and all.

$100 is going to be pretty darn tough.

The red and white on their own are probably the audio out jacks, which is what you'd want to use.

Normal tv is going to be a stereo source, so anything 5.1 is just going to be faking it.

$100 is not much to work with... maybe you'd even be better off going with a set of computer speakers hooked up to your tv.
Something like Logitech z-2300s for $60 and a cheap adapter would do the trick.

You could get a pair of these

for about $150 when they are in stock.

older version - http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/produ...Audition%20AS-B1%20Speakers%20-%20Pair
$9 shipping for me

Primus 150s

JBLe30

Even if you get some stereo speakers, you're still going to need an amp / receiver to power them. That's going to be at least another $50, and probably more like $100 for entry level.

Ya I haven't heard them but they are supposedly not bad for the price. Might be worth taking a look at for the OP

Unless he actual amplified speaker outputs speakers alone aren't going to do him any good. I'm betting what he has are standard line outs and he's going to need an amplifier to go along with the speakers.

Hundred is tuff. Get a budget refurbed onkyo receiver from ecost or craigslist or something(if you're playing from dvd), then get a pair of Polk R30's or R15's.

Probably the best you can do, and the lowest i'd go. Any less then that, and its just trash not worth upgrading to.
