TV size question

i know stupid question but could somebody explain to me the meaning of

4:3, 16:9 for resolution?

its not resolution, its aspect ratio.

16x9=widescreen
4x3=fullscreen

The numbers are a ratio of their size. Meaning a 16x9 tv would have a length of 16 and height of 9, or some multiple of that.
