I've been watching the old reruns of E.R. on TNT during the day, and it's such a breath of fresh air to see how good that show was back in the day. You could actually identify with the characters and their situations.

To see it now... it's like a hollow shell of its old self. I can't even bare to watch the newer episodes anymore. After Dr. Greene died, the show took a steep dive creatively and in character development (although it was starting to get a bit "cold" even at that point).

Anyway, what shows that you used to enjoy have you seen just get worse with age?

Drawn Together - so funny the first 2 season, so senseless and purposely grotesque thereafter. Couldn't even get through the series finale.

Back in the day I loved Arli$$ but it got seriously dumb after the first few seasons as well.

The Sopranos.. no explanation needed.

On the flip side, I was iffy with American Dad at first but now consider it a step above FG.

Um, that's pretty much any show. I can't think of a single show that got better with age...most shows jump the shark. (By got better with age, I mean the last/current seasons being better than the beginning ones. Most series do take a season or two to get into a groove...the pilot episodes always have a weird feel to them)

Scrubs, Friends, any series on Fox, ok well any series on any network. I'm not talking about those critically acclaimed, one season shows that got cancelled before they should have.

I'd say Seinfeld got better with age.

Seconded, makes you wonder what else they could have come up with if they didn't go out on top.

Andromeda, the first 3 seasons were excellent. But the 4th and 5th just made no sense. They replaced their creative staff after the third season, and the new staff changed the direction and had to work with all the building and development the previous staff had done.

Same here. The first two seasons were meh, but they were firing on all cylinders during the last few seasons.

Southpark started getting bad, but then got funny again - this latest season is one of the best thus far

Simpsons sucks now

Family Guy is all but crap now too

Battlestar Gallactica is the most recent show to go to shit for me

Yeh, pretty much any scripted series is eventually going to run the creative well dry. It's even moreso for stuff like Lost and Heroes where you can only string the viewers along for so long before they get bored.

Plus with series like 24, they blew their creative load in the first season with the unique style and can only put Jack Bauer in so many crazy situations before it just gets old.

Hmm... seems to me that lost has been pretty good lately.

I think the winner for me is clearly Battlestar Galactica. It went from one of the best shows on TV to Smallville quality. NYPD Blue got pretty bad after Milch left. That might be my #2.

the spinoffs are killing it as well. CSI Miami and CSI New York are horrible horrible shows. I watched one episode of New York last night and wanted to vomit.

SVU is pretty good. Criminal Intent is indeed heinous though.
