After reading some of the responses on the other thread, a few of the posters (posers maybe ;) ) were saying things like...it was great but now it blows dog (paraphrasing).

I started thinking about shows that I really didn't think that I would like, but then couldn't get enough of and a couple came to mind.

Chuck - can't wait for the new season
The Big Bang Theory - for some reason I really relate to Sheldon
House - best show on TV IMO (I didn't start watching until about 3-4 months ago)
The Amazing Race - I would love to do this
Hell's Kitchen - they must pick people with marginal cooking skills just for the lolz
So You Think You Can Dance - some really cool dancers doing stuff I've never seen before

What say you?

NCIS
Friends

Never got into Friends until the re-runs, and then just got hooked. (Thought it was a chick's show, and was anti-NBC at the time, long story)

NCIS - didn't care for it at all, thought it was stupid the first time I saw it. Got hooked last season, and now that damn NCIS marathon(s) that they have on the USA network take up 50% of my DVR. (I keep watching it and deleting them but they keep having more marathons, which I don't mind at all)

SSSnail - 2.5 Men is also pretty good, forgot about that. (Got hooked when they started airing the reruns on syndication)

Dexter
Two and a Half men: I don't try to watch it, but the few I've seen are actually pretty good.
Men in Trees: umm... ya...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I only watched it because my girlfriend at the time was a huge fan of the show. But as we watched more and more, I found myself getting caught up in the story. I even got upset with her because she watched an episode without me, lol.

I still need to see the final disc of Season 7...

Scrubs was another one. I remember watching it when it first came out and thinking "This is an absolutely pathetic show to try to replace Seinfeld." I watched it again after college and was stunned; it's a great show. I can't believe I didn't like it when it first came out (I own every season on DVD now).

Desperate Housewives - Wife loves the show. Still too soap opera like for my tastes, but I find myself chuckling at a lot of the dark humor on it.
Smallville - I like the Lex Luthor character.

Dirty Jobs. At first I thought it would be annoying or something, then I realized how awesome Mike Rowe is.

Battlestar Gallactica (new one)

Dexter

well, penny's rack helps too.

I'm with you on Scrubs. I don't watch much regular TV but that show is pretty enjoyable when I do watch it.

I'm actually surprised when I like any TV show. Like I said, I don't watch much regular TV but I have been renting a few HBO shows. The Sopranos was very good and so was Rome. Carnivale not so much. Anyway, I prefer to watch movies rather than TV episodes, but those HBO shows were pretty good. I can't remember the last time I watched any TV show regularly. Probably when Seinfeld was still airing new episodes.

How is anyone surprised that they enjoyed Dexter? An hour long cable channel drama/suspense about a serial killer who hunts serial killers. That doesn't scream awesome?

Law & Order, SVU and CI. It's admittedly not a very good show, very formulaic with a lot of over the top plot twists and not so great acting. But I can't help but watch it whenever I come across it while flipping channels. Doesn't help that it's always on on one channel or another.

ok... but this thread is about people who watched a show and were surprised they liked it, not people who never watched a show and therefore have no idea if they liked it. If someone took the time to watch Dexter knowing what it was about, I don't see how they'd be surprised they enjoyed it.

Eli Stone. Thought I would hate it but ended up loving it. Hope it doesn't get canceled.

Aside from yesterday's news of Boston Legal's return, the only other real bubble show that successfully fought for its survival was Eli Stone, which will air Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. this fall. The dramedy, which was a midseason program this year, stars Jonny Lee Miller as a lawyer who has prophetic visions...usually accompanied by George Michael songs.

Hmmm, someone lent me the first season about 4 months ago and I still haven't gotten around to watching it. Sounds like I should give it a shot.

for me it was...

Chuck - Watched it for the chick, then it came back after the strike and i loved the changes that the strike brought about. It's a show i am looking forward to it coming back in the fall.
Eli Stone - Similar story. Watched it for the red head and actually got into the story, looking forward to it returning in the fall.

Shows that failed that test....
Beauty and the Geek - this season was teh suck.
