TV Resolution ?

does anybody know, what's a standart TV resolution on a standart TV?

640x480 im sure, could be 320x240 though, more likely 640

The broadcast signal sends 525 vertical lines. However, since about 40 of them are dropped as the beam moves from the bottom to the top, this yields about 485 (or about 480) vertical lines that are actually displayed. And since TV's have an aspect ratio of 4:3, I would think the resolution is 640x480 as well.

It is 640x480, but TVs crop the screen on the top and bottom by quite a bit. If you have a TV tuner, you'll see the difference - the network logos look like they're in the wrong place (not evenly spaced in the corner). Oh, and some TV can output at resolutions up to 800x600 (that's what I set my video card at when I output to the TV). I'm not sure if this helps you any, but I thought I'd share.

Standard TVs are analog scanners, not digital, and therefore do NOT have "anything by anything," but rather go by the NTSC standard of 525 lines of resolution. That is how scanning devices are measure.
