TV repair?

does anyone know anything about TV repair?

i have a relative who's offering a free 36" Sony Wega, but says it's broken and a repair tech said it needed a new "mainboard". he estimated $250 to fix it (should get more details later). is this worth it? one thing is that the TV weighs like 200lbs, so it'd be a bitch to move....i'm wondering if it's worth my trouble

not sure about the sony's but my friend got a crt repaired for about £100 ($180) and it's been running fine for a year.
if you do try and get a warranty on the repair!

$180 would be nice......current tv is a real old 27" sony trinitron which still has a decent picture.

Add another $1400 and get the Samsung 50" 1080p DLP for $1649 on the GottaDeal main page 🙂

It weighs about 80 pounds unboxed.

$250 for a 36" Sony tv doesnt sound all that bad. Just get a few more quotes from other repair places andmake sure your not getting screwed. I know a little bit about tv's so if you can find out exactly what it is doing I may be able to help you figure out further if it is a main board or not.

That TV was probably about $800~1000 when they bought it but those things are beasts. Is the TV completely dead?
