TV Reccomedations: 2 tv's

Parents are looking for 2 new TV's one for the main room, and one for the basement...

Main TV
Price Range:
900-1300
40"+
1080P

The Room:
Main living area... has 3 windows, with shades that are typically drawn... moderate to high lighting... viewing angles are not outrageous, but there are a few different angles that it will be viewed from.

Basement TV
200-500
32"
720p+
LCD

The Room:
basement... lighting is low to moderate, viewing angle is normally dead on.

Other than that... looking for a very good recommendation for both price ranges... no 3d necessary... just general use...

viewing angle= plasma.
but windows...hm
how much actual day viewing do they do.

it's high, especially for my mom... but there is no direct light ONTO the tv, there is a window directly behind the TV.

TV is angled, the o's are the windows, the ___ is a fireplace... the one space in the bottom wall is a doorway that TV is also watched through when eating food... the right side window faces west and very rarely gets sun directly through it, just reflections...

55" LCD prices are hilariously low now (sub-$1000)... And Amazon has the P58S2 for $1100. Just don't get anything small. 😉

So, of any possibly Plasma, the G20 seems to be the best, and for a lot less than they want to spend...

BestBuy pushed them towards LCD's because of glare... I want to make sure they do NOT get LED sidelit LCD...

I need to research LCD tvs now... my personal TV is a Panny 42PZ700U so i know, and have been told, about the amazing picture quality on this tv... and i know it has amazing dark light picture quality... however glare is an issue... are new plasmas still as bad for glare? it so, I will eliminate plasma's from their choices because of glare.

get a plasma then, unless its noon day sun the anti glare on the higher models is decent enough, and anyways you aren't going to be watching a bluray at that time in any case.
if most of their quality watching is during the evening and night, get a large higher end plasma, you won't regret it. esp since todays prices might not last

Apparently there was a glut.

the room faces south east(ish) so yea... i cant say that it won't be bright... i honestly can't do a plasma recommendation on them because of my own experienc with plasma and glare, and their room has more light than anything i have ever put my plasma in.

thinking

have the 55 Vizio in a room that gets a lot of light, looks great. the G20/25 plasma looks slightly better but its pretty close. and im gonna guess your parents aren't gonna care about the black level difference

probably not... However I will be bringing my TV home and putting it in the room so as to see the exact issues that may be present with the glare...

Nothing like thick drapes or a shade or both. In Alaska they use to put Aluminum Foil in the window to block the light in the bedrooms. So actually some thick drapes or something like that might make a nice window treatment. Putting film on the window causes excess moisture and mold. I have heard of some companies that tint windows. I have also used nice dark colored (forest green) vertical blinds. Easy to open and close. Most likely they already have drapes and dont want to change them. This is normally a custom order. Might be consider a dated window treatment. I thought they made the room look dark.
