ok here's a thought i had last night. all my video cards have tv-out on them, unfortunately i don't have a hdtv or plasma screen yet. so i was wondering if any of you knew if it would be possible to route the video feed from a pc through a vcr to the tv and have the resolution corrected by the vcr?

just use S-video, i have an older machine hooked up to my 36 inch sony in my living room (22 foot svideo paired with sound)

works great, i have all my old slow machines bit T******, (dont know if thats taboo here) and then just throw the downloads to that machine .

double click and full screen. Then sit back and relax in my recliner :)

????????????????????????????
????????????????????????????
?

Are you mixing up the INPUT resolution (ie 1024 X 768) to be converted to your selected TV format (PAL or NTSC) with the OUTPUT (which is the selected TV format PAL or NTSC)?

Have you configured the TV-out settings (they dont work by 'magic' you have to set them up).

Most TV-outs have a limit to the maximum desktop res they will cope with as an input.

Vid files don't matter as they are nearly always (always?) under 1024 X 768.

What are you having trouble doing?

maybe i am missing something, but i had hooked it up to the tv via s-video, with the lowest desktop resolution and it was blurry as hell on the tv. i was under the impression that the tvs resolution was lower than the vidcards lowest resolution and was causing the blur. also the manual that came with the card said that it needed to be hooked up to a hdtv or plasma. i was wanting to use the tv as a monitor for surfing and gaming, not for just watching dvds and video.

If you are using analog TV-output(s-video or composite(rca) its going to always be 480i...in other words, OK for some gaming and video playback, but poor for text rendering (web surfing, desktop)

oh yea, back to the original thought now that i was sidetracked...
does anyone know if the vcr will alter lower the resolution to tv standards if the svideo is routed through it?

Like I said above, the TV-out is ALWAYS 480i (s-video or composite(rca) in other words, it is already "tv standard" before it gets to the VCR.
