TV Out Picture Quality?

How's the quality of TV out? I've heard both good and bad. Anybody know how good the TV out is on a Geforce4 ti? Thanks

The image my Ti4400 puts on our 47" HDTV via S-Video was ok. There were only two resolutions available, 8x6 and 10x7. Even at 8x6 with big icons and extra large text, it wasn't much fun surfing the web, word processing etc, the text was just too blurry. However videos, dvds, and games all looked great. The inability of the TV/S-Video combination to display anything even remotely high res had an effect on the game graphics similar to antialiasing in that individual pixels weren't really visible and so edges were softer. If you've got a Ti, try it out, but I wouldn't use it exclusively. However, I would like to find a card with composite video out to take advantage of the HD part of our HDTV. If you're working with just a regular old tv, it's not something I'd consider a long term solution.

Text will always look bad on a regular TV. It's not the resolution capabilities of the hardware, but the TV itself that makes it bad. Also a TV isn't really designed to display static images.

I have a Radeon 9500 pro using tv-out through a S-video to Rf modulator on a 30 inch TV, and it looks great considering its in RF [S-video looks magnitudes better, but thats now used for the dvd]. Text is semi-readable on the RF, and is readable with S-video at 8x6.

Im of the impression that Tv-out has more to do with your video card than it does with cabling [to some extent], so for the very best Tv-out you would need a Radeon card since they output 10-bits on each RGB [whereas geforces do 8-bits per RGB] which makes a major difference in clearity and quality.
