TV Out on Inspiron 8k...How to play Movies...?

Alright, I just got in an Inspiron 8K, and hooked up the video out to my TV. Everything works fine, buth when I try to play an Mpeg, AVI, DVD...etc, nothing shows up on the TV. I'm assuming it has something to do with the video overlay...but I'm not sure how to remedy it...does anyone have any ideas?
