tv-out help w/geforce3

Hey all, I am new to the whole TV-out thing so pardon my stupidity. Searching for forums yielded little help, so here I am. I have a Geforce3 Ti200 and am trying to get the TV-out feature to work right with an older TV. The TV has inputs for a composite (RCA) connector, not S-Video. I have it wired as such so that there is an S-Video cable going from the TV-out on my video card to an S-Video/RCA adpter, and then that is plugging into the TV via an RCA plug. I have verified that the adapter/wiring job works by plugging it into the S-Video output of a DVD player and the TV receives a picture no problem (I got all the parts from radio shack). The problem I am having is when I try to output from my computer, the screen stays black, with what appears to be thick lines scanning from top to bottom. I think I may just have something setup on the computer wrong which is causing this. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.

I'll bet its the adaptor despite your testing, the card may not sense that it is connected to a display using the adaptior, while the DVD player is outputting a video stream regardless of whether its hooked up or not.

Using an RF modulator (got from Radio Shack) works every time in my experience, and is what you should be using unless you have a specific adaptor for a specific card, sometimes those adaptors won't work in every application.

cool man, thanks a lot. I figured it was something to do with the adapter. I'm going to go head up to radio shack and swap out the $20 adapter (can you believe that shit) for an RF modulator. Thanks again.

well, I got the RF modulator and it's still not displaying to the TV. It's like nView isn't even detecting a
TV at all. It's basically hooked up like this: <computer>---(s-video cable)----<RF Modulator>---(Coax cable)----<TV>. I have it setup to work on channel 4, but when I turn the TV on to that channel, all I get is a bunch of static. Is there like a way to FORCE the video card to just output like a video stream?.

First return that stuff to radio shack. Get a s-video to composite adapter from provantage.com They're $1.74 and it works perfectly on my tv. Then go into the forceware drivers menu and say my connected tv is not being detected, rebbot, and boom. Your done.

so, in essence, there is a way to force the vid card to send a video stream out of the TV-out port by clicking the `My TV is not being detected' checkbox. I believe I tried that and still got nothing. But, I did find a good S-Video/Composite adapter for $1.75 online. Looks like I'll be returning that $35 abomination of circutry back to radio shack. Thanks again for all the info.
