TV-Out for ATI

Update:

I got the cable from the s-video store and I still get absolutely NO picture on my TV.
This is soooo frustrating.
I got this new Dimension 4700 one week ago and have been totally unable to use it for anything without the TV as a monitor.

--------------------------

After getting a regular 4-pin S-Video cable ($10) and S-Video to RCA converter ($20) at K-Mart which I had to return because they did not work with the ATI x300 video card in my dell dimension, I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good electronics store in the West LA area (Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, West LA, La Brea) that might carry a 7-pin to RCA S-Video cable/converter?

I already tried Radioshack, Best Buy, Circuit City, ...

Is ordering it online out of the question?

(here)

EDIT: oh, and if you want RCA in the end, I'm pretty sure you'll have to convert it to RCA @ the card and then run RCA.

I would prefer a store where I could stop by today after work and get the cable ... since I got the Dell on Friday and so far have been unable to do anything with it (I am going to set it up as a HTPC).

did you ever hear back from the company in regards to your email?
I am considering getting the 7-pin to S-Video/RCA. (http://www.svideo.com/7pin.html)

Do you think this one would work too? I would rather have the option to use S-Video in the future in light of the quality degration due to RCA.

Kind regards,
Ivar

If you want s-video in the future, you can just plug an s-video cable right into the card.

The response from the company is in the thread I linked to.

EDIT: fixed your link in case anyone else wanted to take a look fixed

I got the cable from the s-video store and I still get absolutely NO picture on my TV. It is just the same as with the regular s-video to RCA adapter.

This is soooo frustrating.

What card, and are you sure the connection is s-video? Most Ati cards have a connector that goes to breakout box w. composite and s-video connectors.

Unfortunately s-video cable goes to the one in the card, but won't work.

See if the pins match. Contact Ati, if you didn't get a breakout box w. the card.

I had a similar problem w/ my laptops 9600 not sending anything to the SVideo out connector at first, you need to go into the ATI drivers under the Advanced setting in display properties and select display and then make sure it detects your display and you turn the connection on as it doesn't come on by defualt (at least in ATI's newer drivers)

OEM/bare cards include the necessary 7-pin mini-DIN to RCA composite cable and a 4-pin S-Video cable (sometimes as a combined Y-cable). Dell should have supplied one so have them do so or else order one direct from ATI. Given the appropriate cable, yes the TV must be activated under the Displays tab from the ATI Control Panel -presumably Dell installed this and/or you have wisely installed the latest driver/CP package (not the wretched CCC one). If the TV button is greyed out then the TV is not detected but may be forced with an option under the Troubleshooting button.

You may need to tell the PC to use the TV as a monitor.
When I set up a Ti4400, I plugged it into a monitor and TV, so I could turn on the TV output (otherwisde it would only display to the monitor).
