Tv-out box with mac connection - help needed

I have a ltv portable pro by focus enhancements. It's a tv scan converter. The problem is that it only has input/output for a 20 pin mac video (vga I guess). I purchased a cheap adapter to change pc vga to the 20 pin mac connection, but it didn't work. The picutre appeared on the tv screen, but it was far too big. Does anyone know what type of adapter I would need to get the propper picture on my tv? I have seen those adapters for the mac vga that have dip switches on them to fix the resolutions. Would that work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
