TV-OUT Audio Hum/Buzzing

Ok, I have tv-out. Using a long rca audio cable, I connect the audio to my tv and my sound card using an adapter. I've tried changing the adapter, cable and even switching to my onboard audio instead of my santa cruz and I still get buzzing. With some dvds/video files, the volume isn't loud enough so I have to boost up my TV volume. That creates a loud hum/buzzing sound that makes the real audio almost impossible to understand.

Any good ideas on where this is coming from?

Ground loop?

Try connecting the computer and tv to the same outlet and see if that helps.

Also, if you're going from soundcard to tv speakers, there might be some bad input from the mic or line-in if those aren't muted.

yea, I just did some googling. Finally found out it was my cable connection. If I remove it, all buzz is gone. Sort of a hassle but I can live with unscrewing it when I need to. Unless there are cheap fixes....??

If that's a 50 or 60 Hz hum, then it's a so called main ground/earth loop. You might want to reconsider your power wiring.

The cable wire itself should be grounded.

If you can, trace the outside cable to where it comes into your house.
Should be grounded in that vicinity.

By grounded , I mean a copper wire from the cable connection to
an electrical ground rod or similiar.

hmm, I'm in an apartment and have no idea how to do it. Maybe I'll ask time warner to do it for me next time they bug me about their phone service.
