TV only has Optical Digital Audio Output

Just learned that my new LG 49UB8200 TV only has "Optical Digital Audio Output" while my speaker set only has the 3.5mm headphone jack style input. This is really annoying as these speakers are more than sufficient and have served me very well at a great price of $50.

Even just getting the audio cable and some kind of converter box is probably worth more then what the speakers cost.

Also: oh god yet ANOTHER style of cable format that is incompatible, and yet MORE cables and boxes to have piled up behind the entertainment system.

That is why we have HDMI- to carry audio and video. Pretty amazing stuff for cable management.
