tv & nonshielded speakers

My TV at home has been blurry recently, text is not very sharp at all, and I dont remember it being like that in the past. I just moved into a new apartment and my roommate put his speakers ON the TV, but they are never used, so I was wondering if the turned off speakers can affect the quality of the tv picture tube.

When I lower the contrast, the image becomes much clearer, but with the contrast up high, it gets extremely blurry. Note that when I say blurry, I'm just referring to white text on the screen, like stuff in the tvguide channel.

I havent had the chance to speak with him about removing the speakers, and just wanted to know if that could be a case, or if the TV is screwed up.

Edit: The speakers on the top of the TV are the left rear, center and righ rear, again they are not used when watching TV.

It doesn't matter whether or not the speaker is on. The magnet in the speaker is what causes distortion. Take the speakers off the TV.

Move the speakers around on the tv and if you see strange colors on the tv, then they are interfering with it. I don't think they need to be on...

yeah I'll remove them in the evening when I get back, just wanted to doublecheck about whether they needed to be ON to affect the quality.

thanks for the input.

Your TV may not be adjusted properly, what you're describing sounds like blooming.

Have you calibrated it since you moved?

You have calibrated it at some point... right?

Nope never calibrated 😀 Is there something I test it against? I messed around with different settings, but it still seems to do it.

Can it permanently screw up the TV? Having speakers on top that is, coz my roommate just moved it off the TV and says there isnt much of a difference.

I'll look into calibrating it tonite, gotta figure out how tho!
