TV intermittently turning itself off

I got myself an LG 32LH40 around February of this year. I've had no complaints thus far, up until about a month ago when it started turning itself off. Most of the time, after shutting itself off, it will turn back on just fine. Other times, the tv will come back on and have no display. In addition to the display not working in this situation, the the TV does not respond to the remote trying to power it off, plus I can't turn the tv with the buttons on the side. The only way to turn the TV off in this situation is to unplug it.

Called LG support tonight and the guy gave me the whole "unplug and hold the power button for 15 seconds" thing...which I knew would not fix the issue, but was still told to just call back if it happens again. Low and behold, 10 minutes after the TV is on, it does it again.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm covered under manufacturer warranty up until this coming February, just wondering if there is an in home solution to what I'm experiencing, or if I just need to bug LG until they fix it or send me a new one.

Please and thank you.

I would check to make sure the power-down and/or sleep timers are turned off. Is there a specific source that it shuts down on? Does the power LED do anything when the TV shuts down? If it flashes a certain number of times, count it and look it up.

The only similar issue I've had was with my Pioneer 5080 when I had an antenna connected to the TV tuner. There's a common problem with the guide software that causes the screen to go blank and the power LED to flash 8 times. The only real solution to that problem is to not use the TV tuner, which thankfully I don't need.

It seems that some people on avsforum might be having a similar issue: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18084570#post18084570

Edit: avsforum owners' threads are often the best source of information on problems and solutions. I recommend skimming the entire thread.

Get an RMA from LG. ASAP.

Failure in the power supply. Anytime the unit quits accepting user input it means the microprocessor has gotten stuck and is either locked up or stuck in a loop. Usually it is caused by power supply or clock crystal failure. Crystals are very reliable so my guess is the power supply is providing dirty power causing it to glitch the processor.

A tech would normally just swap out the psu board , usually takes about 10 minutes once the unit is open.
