TV glare - how big of a deal?

I'm in the market for a 50" TV and I don't want to spend too much. So far I'm really liking this model:

However after seeing it in stores, the screen is really shiny - shinier than most plasmas. Most people reviewing the TV who mention glare still give it a positive review. I'm not too worried about glare from sun (this is Seattle, we don't get sun). What about glare from lights though? I might look at different plasma models with slightly less glare, but in my price range I'm guessing that plasmas are still the best option.

What I would do in your case, especially if you plan on a bit of ambient light, like lamps and stuff on the opposite side of the TV, is to buy a mount that tilts. Tilt it down a few degrees so that it's facing the floor. You'll still be able to see everything fine and it should (hopefully) eliminate quite a few of the glares.

I HATE glare and can't stand it.

This is why my home theater is in a light controlled room in the basement (flat black painted walls, dark ceiling and floor). I do have a TV in the living room which is above grade, but I have good vertical blinds that block out a good 95% of the light.

It's all gonna depend on where and when you watch it. I don't watch much tv in the daytime, but when I do the glare from my plasma can be a problem between about 11-2. I tilt my tv down a little bit, so lights don't cause much problem.

Glare is the single biggest problem with plasma in my mind, though.
