TV for kid's gaming corner in the basement

Looking for a TV for the kid's gaming corner in the basement (will also DVDs/Bray). Because of the size of the space I can only accommodate something around 42 inches or so (ballpark, but not looking at 60").
Currently they have a Wii which I think only does 720p, but my young teenagers are looking Xbox/PS3, so guessing they'll get one of those in the future.

Is 720p still OK with those gaming systems or should I go 1080p?

What else should I look for for primarily a "gaming" monitor? does LED, refresh rate, etc... matter that much? I hear plasma has burnin issues so probably not good for gaming (and more expensive anyway).

here are some characteristics I would love:

* At least for now I think I will not add a sound bar or receiver, so if the TV had decent builtin sound it would be nice (I don't expect miracles, at least the room is relatively small)

* I have an HDLNA server running in the house, I use it with a dedicated box in the living room, but I would like this TV to support HDLNA natively so I don't have to buy another box. I think they are more or less standard nowadays?

* internet capable so kids can lookup youtube videos would also be a plus. although right this moment I don't have a network cable to that area of the basement, but I can work on it.

Budget is somewhat flexible but I'd like to stay cheap, hopefully <$500 for the TV, preferably $350 range, but it's not the biggest deciding factor. I wan a decent TV, but it doesn't have to be "home theater quality".

By the way, models available at local B&M (best buy, target, walmart, costco, ....) would be a plus. Ideally we're trying to be done this weekend as they have a party with friends early next week, but if the "perfect" TV has to be bought online and shipped in, we'll live with it.

Thanks for the suggestion. It feels almost like "too much TV" but more is better right?
As I look at different models (about to head out to Costco) are there specific features I should look for or that is shouldn't career about, like 720 vs 1080, LED or not, refresh rate...
My existing TV is 3D so unless games use it (or will n the next few years) I don't think I care about it for the basement..
