TV DVR HDD to PC DVD?

Just wondering if I can somehow get some TV shows I have on my DVR HDD on to my laptop and then on to a DVD? Seems like I tried this one before on my desktop with no luck. With that attempt, I was trying to burn bit torrent files on to DVD and just couldn't get it to work properly (think it was a codec problem or something).

But with this, I want to connect my laptop directly to my TV/DVR in hopes of storing programming to my laptop HDD and then burning to DVD.

Curious about a walk-thru and what I would need (applications, codecs, etc.) if I can do something like this. Thanks.

We can't help without the Make / Model of your HD-DVR & the Cable System it is on
Some units have a Firewire or USB port ... some don't
Some have the software enabled to allow the above ports to work ... some don't
Some HD-DVRS use a file system that is not the same as FAT or NTFS and may
encrypt the data, so copyrighted programs or movies can't be copied ... some don't

Try a Google of your Model Number

Errr...at work now so can't check. It's just the one supplied to me by my cable company (Timewarner) but I will check when I get home and post specs. Thanks.

You can record or transfer to tape ... see page 12 of user manual

Same method to record it to your hard drive, but you would need a Video Capture Card

Yeah, I have the 8300HD, with dual IEEE 1394's on the back. I have a TV capture card on my desktop but I was hoping to accomplish this just by running a cable from the DVR directly to my laptop, saving to HDD and burning to DVD. I'm assuming I cannot do this without the capture card?
