TV/DVD Player Set Up....Help!!

Calling any audio/video gurus, geeks, and geniuses. My new Samsung DLP TV and DVD player are here, but I'm having a hell of a time getting the connection to work.
The TV hookup went without a hitch, (Comcast Cable, btw). The problem is getting the DVD player to work. Trying all sorts of combinations, but I cannot get either a picture or sound when I pop in a DVD. Now I may be tired, but it seems that the TV manual and the DVD manual offer two different sets of "easy set up" instructions.
Should I Ebay this crap I bought? Take a hammer to it? Or can someone here solve the mystery?

try it on a different television and on a different set of inputs on the tv you're using....if the problem persists try different cables...still no go ebay that crap!

Did you try hooking the cables up? Your post says noting on what you did do.
You mean as in plug them in? Yeah, I figured that'd be a good place to start. In fact, I've plugged those damn cables into every conceivable jack, but no combo seems to work.

How are you hooking them up? Component? S-video?

Are you doing analog audio to the TV?

Have you tried switching through the different inputs like Zim suggested?

Are you hooking them up composite, S-video, Component or DVI....

If component are you sure the colors are matching on either side?

Oh, and follow the TV directions. All DVD players are going to output the same way.

General idea:
For component
Plug in your component cables to the component output on the DVD player (red, green, and blue)
Plug the other end into a component input of your choice on the TV. (I assume it has more than one)
Plug in the white and red audio cables to the output of the DVD player and the other end into the audio input that goes with the component input that you plugged the video into.

Turn on the DVD player (doesn't even need a movie because it will have a splashscreen/menu setup probably)

Cycle through your TV inputs until you get to the input that you plugged the DVD player into (Video 1 or whatever)

Plug in your component cables to the component output on the DVD player (red, green, and blue)
The cables I'm using are red, white, and yellow, and they match any number of receptacles in the back of each unit.

You're using some composite cables and DVI at the same time?

Ok, whatever.. we'll just get composite to work first.

Just match up the colors. They're color coded for a reason.

There should only be one of each color on the DVD player = no brainer.

Hook up to a set of colors on the TV that are grouped together.

The yellow cable will carry the video signal and white/red the audio. Let's get that to work before you try DVI.
