Assuming i have a P4 2.2Ghz Computing

DV CAM connected to the PC via Firewire and have the video tranferred to the computer for edit,
so, apart from a Firewire port, do we really need a DV edit card?? These card said they can have real time MPEG 1 / 2 encoding. But could we just leave it out and have the CPU does that??

Are there any low profile TV tuner card??

And how does external TV tuner compare to internal in terms of quality?.....( let say a external one which USB 2 as connection compare to a PCI tv tuner )

If all is true.. does that mean i could record TV programs with a TV tuner without MPEG 1 / 2 real encoding card with a powerful computer and with the appropite software... ( Likw WinDVR / Power VCR )

You dont need to have a special dv card if you want to encode captures from a TV. It will just take a while to encode the recording via software. Just keep in mind that encoding mpeg via a software package is a timely process. I have a firewire card myself and have no problem waiting for my pc to encode. I'll just have more time to sit and futz around on the net.
