considering they're broadcast i'd think so... but I dunno (and would like to know before I try and download every episode of STrek ever made :D)

my thought was (back in the day) i would download the episodes i'd missed...

they were clearly from TV (the little channel logo in the corner, commercials cut out or fast-forwarded through)

I'm not looking to download ripped DVDs, just the episodes from TV (ususally at something like 300x200 resolution)

yep. You can record and timeshift anything you want from your cable or satellite feed, but you are not legally allowed to download a show from someone else. I'm not saying I agree with all these laws, but your question was "is it illegal?".

He said download, not record.

i believe technically recording IS illegal
Nope. Fair use lets you record your broadcast (with VCR/Tivo/etc) as long as you dont sell, distrubute or display in public for commercial means.

well if nobody is doing it for commercial means (reasons) then isn't downloading it off Kazaa legal? nobody's making money here

sorry to keep asking but i'm curious

most of the shows have the commercials ripped out, so you don't even have the opportunity to see the ads that were sold.
