Red gun seems to have gone all pincushined on my Hitatchi 54". It seems to break once every two years and up till now its been covered by warrenty. Don't think I want to throw any money at it since its going on 6 years old.

What should I get?
Requirements: not plasma and not a true LCD
LCD,CRT or DLP rear projection is the way I'm leaning
Does LCD "screendoor"? DLP rainbow? Gonna start looking into this stuff, just asking if anybody here has any idea of good makes and models.

Why not a true LCD? I just got a Westinghouse 1080p 42" LCD from worst buy, and it's been great.

My first choice in getting a TV was actually a CRT rear projection, since they had way longer lamp lifes than macrodisplays like DLP or LCD RP. Plasma TVs has the burn-in problem, and with prices comprable to LCDs, I didn't really consider that. Check out AVS Forum for more detailed info on a particular TV.

Cost vs size mostly. I'm looking at around $2000 for something around 54" From what I have been reading CRT rear projection is still the best bang for the buck. I've read that LCD RP can have motion blurring which sounds like a real turnoff. I'll have to go see some in person I guess.

Actually, from what I've seen, LCDs don't really have motion blur... at least not in the models I've seen. You shouldn't have any quality or blurring problems if you go with a respectable brand.

My Sony 57" CRT died recently as well. With prices falling like they have a new LCD is more appealling than spending money on the piece of crap Sony. No offense to Sony, but I expect a TV to last longer than 18 months before needing major surgery. Actually it did have a good picture.

I first read this thread as ?Iv died, what should I get.? Must remember to get eyes checked.

Oh and we love our year old 55? Wega LCD
