The "HLN" is using 2nd generation DLP chipsets, while the newer "HLP" series uses 3rd gen chipsets. However, the price is pretty good for what you would be getting. However, I'd seriously see if any local retailers have the 50" HLN on their showroom floor so you can check it out and get an idea of what you would be ordering.

Isn't thet differential related to an additional color wheel ?

Sort of. I believe the 3rd gen does a better job at removing the rainbow effect. Also, the newer HLP series has a smaller bezel on the TV. The newer 50" only takes up a bit more space than the older 4#" set.

Thanks for the info. I believe the BRAND NEW HLP set would be out of my range. I want to spend $2500
MAX and this sammy dlp sounds like the best deal I can get ? I want to use it for watching cable tv, dvds and xbox playing.

Yeah I checked bestbuy.com and for the 50" HLP version they want $3299. So there is a huge price difference there and out of my budget :(. Hopefully there isn't that much difference in quality??

There's virtually no difference in quality. I have the HLN model, and it is absolutely beautiful Our local Sams club has 50" Sammys for 2700 and change, I haven't looked to see if they're the newer models or not.
BTW, for the money, the 50" Samsung can't be beat. I did a ton of shopping/research/comparing, and the only way you can come close to the picture quality is with a nearly 10k plasma. And they aren't really even better, just about the same.

There is nothing "far" better than a Samsung DLP. I've yet to see one that is even marginally better, and the only ones I've seen that are on par with it are the $7-10k plasmas.
Once you get one this good, there's not much higher you can go, no matter how much you spend.

The toshiba is in line with the Samsung HD2+ sets, which, in my opinion, are much better than their own HD2 and HD3 sets. The contrast is noticably better. The shadow detail is definitely improved. The black levels are lower. There's the dimple fix. The fill rate is better.
